Virginia Motorcycle Helmet Reform Meeting

January 17, 2016

We have recently received information which would indicate that there may soon be a realistic opportunity to achieve motorcycle helmet law reform in Virginia. There will be a meeting to discuss this immediately after the Lobby Day prep session in Richmond on January 17, 2016.

As soon as we have more information concerning the specific time and place for the Sunday Lobby Day I will forward it to this group. We looking forward to speaking with everyone concerning this issue of importance to all of us.

SCRC - Hill City Cruisers

The Southern Cruisers Riding Club is a free, voluntary club. There are no dues but there are some commitments. Membership in the SCRC is open to anyone with an interest in group riding regardless of race, creed or sex and all applicants must be 18 years of age or older. Operators of motorcycles must have a valid Motorcycle endorsement on their license. Members must be either a Rider or Passenger on a street legal Motorcycle. Spouses, if they ride with their husband or wife as a passenger are eligible to join with the same Membership Status as the motorcycle operator. Non-riders will only be allowed Membership under special circumstances to be determined by the Chapter First Officer and any of the National Officers.

We hold chapter rides two times per month on Sundays at noon as long as the weather meets the 60/50 rule, and that is a projected high of 60 degrees or warmer and less than a 50% chance of rain. We meet at Graves Mill Shopping Center located at the corner of Graves Mill Rd. and route 221 in Forest, VA. Check the calendar below for the next planned ride!

We just want to ride for the thrill of riding. Most of our trips will be local and not 500 miles from here. So whether you ride a Harley, Honda, Kawasaki or any other Street Legal motorcycle, you will always be welcome at the Southern Cruisers Riding Club. The cost for membership is FREE. Our Club patch is optional and is available for purchase for only $40.00. The SCRC is involved with charity fund raising rides, local and long distance rides, overnighters and club dinner rides, and of course the unknown rides which may lead us anywhere. We also promote Motorcycle and Public Safety rules, and under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will we be involved in any illegal activities.

SCRC – Club History

After being out of Motorcycling for almost 15 years, a man named Rick Perry decided to buy a new bike and to start enjoying life just a little bit more than he had been. After a few weeks of riding alone he knew there was still something missing - The Brotherhood of Biking.

It was at this point that Rick decided to start a new Motorcycle Riding Club in the Memphis area. The reasons were to meet new friends and to get the people riding together and sharing the thrill of Motorcycling in a manner that was acceptable to all.

Around July 10, 1998, the name Southern Cruisers Riding Club was born. Rick developed a small website on the net and started a SCRC Forum so we could all have an online meeting place to discuss plans for rides we were setting up. During this time we were working on a Club Patch and went through about a dozen different designs before we all decided on the Current SCRC Club Patch.

Shortly after the Memphis Chapter started to form, Rick was contacted by Jerry "HIP" Longdon from the Knoxville area about the SCRC. Eventually they decided to open a Chapter in Knoxville, TN just to see what would actually happen. Lots of decisions were made at this time about how to run the Southern Cruisers including a NO DUES style club, not to give the Club a bad name and to keep it all clean and legal.

A little time went by and everything seemed to be going well for the two Chapters. Then Rick received a phone call from Tim Jones in Rome, GA. His first words were something like this "How about a Georgia Chapter"! Still kinda shocked that someone would want to start a Chapter of the Southern Cruisers
